British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) is pleased to announce a new three-year agreement with specialist sport insurers, Marsh and Sportscover Europe.
Under the agreement, Marsh will deliver an enhanced personal accident insurance offering for BUCS members and their students, supported by Sportscover Europe’s sector-leading expertise. Together, they will provide a comprehensive solution designed to safeguard the wellbeing of students across the UK.
Specifically designed for the university sport sector, the new BUCS Personal Accident Insurance product strengthens institutional wellbeing provision and helps reduce the financial burden students may face following an accident or injury. The policy offers a suite of improved monetary benefits for students participating not only in sport, but also in recreational societies and activities – ensuring they can return to study and physical activity with minimal financial stress.
Built in direct response to member feedback, the offering has been tailored to deliver clear value and reflect the real risks experienced across the BUCS community. It is, at its core, an offering supported by BUCS members, for BUCS members.
To support the rollout, the BUCS Insurance Zone provides a streamlined online hub where institutions, clubs, and students can easily understand their personal accident cover, access claims guidance, and contact specialists within Marsh’s dedicated BUCS Insurance Team. This centralised resource reduces administrative pressures on institutions while improving clarity and support for students.
At a time when the cost-of-living crisis and rising financial pressures are affecting both students and university sport programmes, Sportscover Europe is strengthening its focus on delivering accessible and reliable insurance solutions. Their aim is to safeguard participation, reduce financial barriers, and help institutions manage risk sustainably so that university sport can continue to thrive.
Will Roberts, BUCS CEO, said: “We have a responsibility of ensuring our students play sport in a safe environment, ensuring protections are in place alongside suitable insurance products. With that in mind, we are delighted to partner with Marsh and Sportscover Europe to provide a sustainable personal accident product. They have taken a pro-active approach in collaborating with us to provide both risk management expertise and niche products designed for our students. We are particularly impressed with their desire to listen to our needs and match products to the risks we face.”

Martin Crannis, CEO Sportscover Europe, commented: “We are pleased to announce our partnership with BUCS for the next three years, delivering a personal accident product, through Marsh that provides students with comprehensive and reliable protection. This union reflects our shared commitment in championing BUCS objectives and strengthening the future of university sport.”
