We welcome Paddy Charlton, Sportscover Europe & Active’s new Head of Business Development. Paddy brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in the sports and insurance industry. We caught up with him, to find out more about what he expects for 2023 and beyond.
I have known Martin Crannis, Sportscover Europe & Active’s CEO, for longer than either of us would like to admit. I was excited to hear about his growth plans for Sportscover Europe & Active, so we talked about me becoming part of the team. He knew that I have always loved sport and building relationships and here was the chance to do both, so I jumped in. Also, while I appreciate that one of the reasons, I have been brought in is because of my experience, I still love the fact that I get to learn something new every day.
I feel really fortunate that I have spent my career in business development, including time in the insurance industry. My role is to work with brokers, understand their needs and those of their clients to get them the right cover at the right price. It’s a simple principle, but you have to remember that each client is different. From my perspective, nothing is better than being invited into the room by brokers to meet their clients and hear first-hand what we can do to help them with the challenges they face. Our job is to help them overcome these so that they and their members can get on and enjoy their sports safely.
From the conversations I am having, clients want confidence that the cover we provide is fit-for-purpose and matches their evolving requirements. So that is why I am already crafting new policy wordings with our underwriting team to do just this. As the risks change our solutions must adapt. The key is that we must anticipate change and what is coming over the horizon to alert our brokers and clients, so that we are all best placed to handle them.
I’m excited about 2023 and confident that we will continue to deliver for our existing clients as well as welcoming new ones on board. We have a number of affinity schemes for associations and their members who will benefit from a new and improved online platform that is coming online – so expect more news on this shortly. Looking beyond and into the next five years I want to collaborate with brokers and the clubs and associations they represent to maximise the opportunities out there. There are a huge number of National Governing Bodies (NGBs) across Europe who we want to engage with and help.
If you would like to contact Paddy, please get in touch with him here via email or LinkedIn. He is always happy to answer questions or discuss ideas.
